The race format is that the bottom 34 qualifiers go into a qualification race, and the top 11 from that race join the top 23 qualifiers to make up the grid for the championship race.
This was my first ever race of any kind, and so my objective really was just to stay in one piece so that I would be able to run again in future. A secondary objective was to see if I could do well enough in the qualification race to get into the chamionship race, and get the most practice possible out of the day.
My qualification left me 6th on the grid for the qualification race, so all I had to do was not lose any more than 5 places.
I got a good start and gained one place before the first corner, but it was not to last as I slowly lost 4 places over the next 2 laps. Conditions were very slippery and I was finding it hard to get a confident line through the corners. Being in 9th gave me a bit more time to find my confidence, and over the remaining laps I made my way back up to 6th, and qualified for the championship race.
The Championship race was doomed from the start, there was a horrible snow storm, the track was getting very slippery, and visibility was almost zero on the straights. I was very relieved to see a red flag after just one lap.
