I did not go to Donington this time around, so this 'report' will be mostly hearsay
Qualifying saw the 106 brigade up front again - the top 4 were all 106s, leading to more discent among the ranks that you have to have a 106 to be competitive. Gordon Macmillan was keen to make up for the failed clutch at Snetterton and started 5th. Darren 'golden lap' Blumson struggled in qualifying - something to do with there not being any suitable shortcuts at this circuit - so he found himself down in 14th.
In the race Carl Townend ran wide from his second row slot, dropping down the field, as did Darren Blumson. Gordon Macmillan having benefited from the place vacated by Townend made another place through the Craner Curves with just Felix and Taylor ahead. Darren Blumson was busy trying to make up for lost ground when he spun Paul Sheehan around and they both took a trip to the gravel, restarting last and second to last.
Before long Macmillan had passed Peter Felix for second, and was looking for a way past Taylor who was apparantly down on power following the head gasket replacement as a result of cooking the engine at Snetterton. Macmillan was soon alongside, but Taylor was not going to relinquish the lead without a fight, and regained the place, only to lose it again. After that, Macmillan was unchallenged as Taylor and Felix held each other before eventually tangling, and allowing Paul McMillan and Pete Morgan to capitalise. Darren Blumson having revived the 'Basher' name made several more places up - but still finished below where he started.
E-mail me if I have missed anything important from this report - only you have to tell me WHAT I missed, not just that I missed something (Paul McMillan)!
