2003 Stock Hatch Round 1, Mallory Park

I did not make it to this race, but the story that unfolded as I spoke to people who had been there was one of true domination.

Returning champion Tony Scarlett continued where he left off last season, still in his trusty 106 XSi, taking a win at Mallory Park in the season opener closesly followed by Peter Felix in the ex-Featherstone 106 Rallye. Gordon Macmillan rounded off the podium after a relatively quiet race, well ahead of the chasing pack, but well behind the lead pair.

For this season, the club has introduced a new 'Pro-Stock' championship as a class within Hot Hatch. Tony Scarlett was one of several of the old hands to try out the new class, but unlike many of the others, he opted to use his standard Stock Hatch car, taking only the tyres out of the list of possible upgrades he could have performed. It was a suprise to some then that he managed to win the class in the opening event of the year, from Hilary Howlett's new 106, and having secured fastest lap in class as well, Scarlett is incredibly leading Stock Hatch, Pro-Stock and Hot Hatch with one race down.
