The final round of Auto Italia in 2003 was at Oulton Park, bathed in warm October sunshine. On this occasion, Graham Scott would be driving the Alfa 156, Trevor Nicosia would be making a guest appearance in the Alfa 75 twin spark, and Charles Cozens would again be racing the CozensRacing Alfa 33
Qualifying went well, with the only reported problem being a difficult third gear selection in the Alfa 156. Confusion reigned as ever with so many drivers swapping cars that many had been placed on the grid in the wrong class, but it was all sorted eventually to allow the rolling start to take place.
Charles Cozens and Graham Scott both made excellent starts, with Graham gaining several places off the line, but in his case it would be short lived as the jar jammed in third gear. Graham had no alternative but to continue with just one gear, bouncing off the rev limiter most of the way aroundthe track. Trevor Nicosia made a more reserved start, but was soon into his stride, and looking comfortable in the Alfa 75.
Charles Cozens made a brief trip into the pits when his rear tyre began to fray at the edges and slap against the bodywork. The damage was assessed as not serious and he was sent back out, retaining his 2nd in class position.
